A Redefinition of Ego
During this time of change on our world, many things are changing as we learn more about the universe and how to participate more consciously in the unfolding of building a spiritually-based culture on our world. One of the most significant changes we are undergoing is in redefining who we are as children of God and to be able to see ourselves more from the divine perspectives, as opposed to viewing who we think we are from the understanding that our belief systems impose upon us. We are making a big transition here, and in so doing, it necessitates that we shift our definition of ourselves into something more wholistic and unified. Currently, the idea of ego has been a big topic in spiritual growth: what it is and how do we overcome it. But is the concept of the ego really the true concept of self? Or is it based on a psychological perspective spawned in an environment of human thought that has become accepted as the norm due to people's attachment to it in lieu of another, perhaps better, idea?
We must remember that what our sciences theorize becomes taken as fact, when in reality sometimes it is the current understanding of the time, and someone has come up with a good concept that seems to make sense. In terms of the concept of "ego," this was the idea that a psycho-scientist developed to understand human nature, and it has become a definition well embedded into our lexicon. We accept this definition of self, and in order to understand its meaning, more theories are developed to try to flesh out its significance to us. Theories upon theories are developed, adding to the complexity of our thinking process becoming difficult and confusing trying to sort this out in terms of what it means to us in our spiritual growth.
Just because this word is used to understand self does not make it true, and we must develop another conceptual frame of reference to understand who we are in the fullness of our humanity. Thus, I would like to offer another definition of self...one that is less complex and easier to integrate into one's self-perception and can add to into the value of how you perceive yourself as a child of God.
To start, I wish to define the term "self" as the gift of personality given to us as evolving humans and the evolutionary nature that we begin with as children. The term "SOUL" is our higher, Godly, nature. This is growing recognition of our spiritual nature that accrues over time as the Indwelling Spirit of God adjusts how we think and feel to more positive and divine ideals of TRUTH, GOODNESS and BEAUTY. Thus the two, self and SOUL are in a dance and as the self is designed to open and grow the SOUL through daily life experience, making decisions of a positive nature that reveals the way of LOVE into the world. The self has an innate desire to evolve the SOUL through experience, and the SOUL expression is that of the higher nature. The Indwelling Spirit of God acts as the means to help the self perceive divine guidance and insight to help the SOUL express one's creative and spiritual nature to the world. The self is good, beautiful and true because it was created by God, even though a persona's self-concept may be negative. Nevertheless, the self is a part of God and was created to evolve into the SOUL--the reflection of Godliness into the world. The SOUL is also a person's unique creative personality expression of the nature of God and is an expression of one aspect of the overall universal divine plan. The SOUL is the higher personal expression and the entity that acts to inspire and entice the self into conscious co-creation with the Spirit of God. Both are necessary to become a unified whole: human and divinity conjoined.
Now using these two definitions, we must then look at how our minds are programmed by Spirit to become consciousness and self-willed. We know that we only use a portion of our intellectual potential. We could say that our consciousness has a bandwidth that is greater than our perception. Yet we can grow, becoming aware of those portions of consciousness that we know as sub and super consciousness through our inner strivings. Here is where our perception opens if we are willing to go within and look at those influences which have wounded us or inspire us. It is not something that happens all at once, but we can expand our awareness through patience and trust that the Indwelling Spirit to open the door of ourselves to see what we are made of. There is a lot of sadness contained with our mind-body system of consciousness, and it takes a courageous open heart and mind with the Spirit's help to be willing to see the stuff of which we are made. Yet it is entirely possible to become aware of the depth of our self, thus enabling our Spirit to guide us through the long evolutionary history of who we are as children of God to grow our higher SOUL nature.
Our consciousness is influenced by spiritual circuits that connect universe information into the various levels of our mind-body systems. We are hard-wired for Spirit reception. This is a continuum that sends certain bio-electrochemical signals through the various systems of our bodies, coding tons of information into various memory receptors both in and outside of our beings. Added onto our memory patterns are ancestral memories coded into the DNA which we inherit. This affects our behavior in ways we are not consciously aware, sometimes feeding us with information of being unworthy, unloved, shamed, etc. These are the influences that are rooted in the rebellion (the planetary event that took us away from following the divine plan of evolution) and have established long threaded codes of information within our DNA that is now being outworked during this period of planetary change. These influences could be considered superimposed over the purity of our personalities and impede the self from perceiving who we really are as children of God. Yet the SOUL yearns for the union with self and for the self to be perceived as good, beautiful and true.
Even though we carry the excess emotional baggage of years of living on a world that has strayed from the divine path of evolution, we are worthy and acceptable children of God just as we are. We have a right to exist, and we have a birthright to love ourselves the way our Creator loves us. When we imprint upon the divine masculine and feminine attributes of Spirit the long encoded memories of the past can be healed.
These are deep and old DNA language that is being outworked during this phase of planetary change. This is addressed during the Generational Healing transformational process. (see Generational Healing). Generational Healing repairs the DNA influences that contain energies of unworthiness that the self may perceive more clearly from the spiritual level, giving the Indwelling Spirit the opportunity to move a person into SOUL expression and development.
Perhaps looking at SOUL and self in this simplified posture will provide you with more clarity in understanding who you are and how you can move your self-concept into SOUL AWARENESS. The more you love and accept yourself gives your own Indwelling Spirit an opportunity to inlay the spiritual energies you need to make this transition into a higher way of perceiving yourself and living more fully from that place each day. This will also simplify your thinking and help you become more heart-centerd and trusting in Spirit guiding you forward into the mighty evolutionary process of growing and living your higher God given nature--your SOUL.
